Abstract Naturalist

Vicky Shaffer White

About The Artist

I am an 'abstract naturalist’ exploring the layers of life with acrylic washes and ink on canvas. My art is about color and shapes and a positive attitude toward life.

“Art seems to me to be a state of soul more than anything else.” (Marc Chagall)

I have always loved Georgia O'Keefe as an artist and her character as a woman in a man's world of art. Much of her influence still appears in my own work.  I simplify and layer images while finding joy in the mundane. I am concentrating on lines, layers, color and composition primarily.   Lines represent my ‘self’ trying to order the events in my life and the layers represent the complexities and ‘color’ the experience.

I have been painting for over 25 years, in Indianapolis, IN. I received a BFA degree in Fine Arts in painting from Herron School of Art. I currently have a studio in Historici Stutz Building along with over 70 other artists and small business.  In the past I served as Executive Director of the Art Association of Henry County (AAHC) in New Castle IN.  I held the office of President on the Herron Alumni Association from 2004 through 2006 and served on the board for 10 years.  I am a past board member of the Stutz Artist Association. I have participated in many local and regional juried shows and encourage the growth of the local arts.   I am fortunate to have placed several of my paintings in the previous Mayor of Indianapolis executive offices, Keep Indianapolis Beautiful Corporate offices, Circle Theater for the ISO, and the Indianapolis Zoo. My work can be seen across the country in California, Florida, Kansas, Wisconsin & Tennessee

Closing April 4th – Artist’s talk at 5pm -open from 4 to 6pm

You are invited! I am excited to share these paintings with you!

This collection of paintings is outside the mainstream of my work, thus the name 'Sightly Off Kilter'. I have been painting away in my home studio. New environments lead to different paths in many cases.

My work is colorful, mostly abstract paintings expressing my thoughts and emotional reactions to events in recent years. I tend to paint florals and organics and these works are my main mode of expression. The messages in these paintings are subtle so they can be viewed as simply nice to look at or as personal comments. Come and see what you see.

All work is for sale with a percentage of sales going to Arts for Lawrence, an organization close to my heart doing great things for our community.
